LIke a full sized engine. She beats the heck out of running a live steamer...this engine is great. This engine pulls a ton and knotchin 'er up makes her run like a champ under any load

You probably know this, but #10 was built using the original boiler from #11. 11 was a nice looking 2-8-0, sort of a modern C-19. The fist CMO out there in the 1970's condemned the boiler (flues leaked) and had a new boiler built that was longer and had a square firebox. They added at trailer truck and made it into a "K-19".

The old boiler went out (back to Daney?) got new tubes, and 10 years later came back as #10. I was hoping they would put bigger drivers under it and make it a modernized RGS 20.

#12 is still my fave. I got to run her when she was still at Guy Stillman's place up the road. c.o.o.l

Man Earl that is awesome. We were just talkin the other day about that engine being up in service. That poor thing has been sittin apart since the early eighties. There was mention of throwing it back together to put it in the museum as a display, but what me, Tom, and Frank think is if were going to put it back together why not just put it back to running status. All of the running gear has been redone really if they had a good month or two to work on it she'd be back. And if this did happen, at that point run all three engines, and once one engine needs some major attention, do what any railroad does, take her out of service, and put her on display in the museum lol.

Here is the deal though, according to the numbers that Tom has come up with for the boiler output he doesn't think that it would be able to handle our 10 car train? Considering ten and eleven both have about 2000 lbs of tractive effort and each car only has about 10 lbs of drawbar pull i didnt think that this would be any kind of problem for 12. BUT NOW, we have a reliable source lol. What do you think about her? You think she could easily handle it? Cuz if so, she may get bumped up a little bit higher on the list of things to do!

Yep 11 was built in '56 as the 2-8-0 which really was a neat looking engine. I am not sure why they decided to do make her into the 2-8-2 K1.9 in 1976, but since they did it kinda put her all out of proportion. And you sure are right about 10's drivers. If they were a few inches bigger, about the size of elevens she would really be close to a little 20.
Ya other than the small drivers on 10, she was a little bit of a mess from the get go. Her steam chest is off set, she originally had different sized piston rods, seemed like the running gear was made up of whatever was laying around since each side is no where near identical. And then like you said, she has 11's old boiler. 10 was finished and delivered in 1980. But I think it's a freakin miracle she runs the way she does now. Her bushings are a little worn, but she steams great, and will out pull eleven any day. Her factor of adhesion is almost half of 11's.

I don't recall how big the trains were back then. Probably less than 10 cars. I don't think they had much more than 10 cars back then. The old depot platform was a bunch shorter.

#12 was built as a 3" scale 4-6-2. Guy Stillman and Hayne Ellis bought it and had Daney convert it into a 5" scale 2-6-2, which is why the spring rigging was so wrong. There was no "back end" to the equalization and the tender held up the rear of the engine. With that fixed, I think it would pull better.

The old CMO came from the Rayonier, where he ran 2-8-2 #90. I think he wanted to relive his youth... c.o.o.l

Somewhere I have slides of #11 and #463 on 463's first fireup on July 4, 1976. We ran a stock train of the 2 stock cars and long caboose. As 463 was too wide to get by the platform, we had to run it on the inner loop.

Say howdy to Tom and Co.
