Hey guys,

Just curious to see what kinds of model railroads are out there. I am sure a bunch of us have them, and i think it would be cool for us to showcase our layouts and to be able to see each other's as well.

Mine train stuff has been packed up in the garage for two years. after 50 years of model railroading, and six layouts. I retired in '04 and railroad $ dried up. I stumbled onto Microsoft Train Simulater, bought the software, and a gaming computer, and havent looked back. There is much cars and engines available, FREE, from a few forums. The engines are set-up to run like the real ones-you actually have to apply brakes downhill. Narrow gauge of course, And free route down loads are-C&TS, Silverton Branch (D&S), RGS, Those are my favorites but there are many many more.

Yeah,

Train-Sim .com Has some narrow gauge stuff, mostly std gauge. But lots of good tecnical stuff.

The best for narrow gauge is Elvas Tower

I would start with the RGS route in Train-Sim, it was made in the very early days of MSTS and is very easy to load.
The others are harder.

Which Operating system are you useing?

I don't have the email addresses for the two forums cause they are in my Favorites.
I keep all my train stuff in My Documents, it's easier to deal with there.
Notify me when you have the RGS route downloaded. There is more to do before you run a train.

I'm using Windows XP Media Center. I'm downloading the RGS route now, I'll alert you when I'm done. I've tried this before but I don't think I did something right.

Okay I installed the RGS Version 3 route, what's next? Hopefully I installed the right now, I just went by the first one on the list.

Do you Have MSTS loaded? Do you have the two MSTS updates installed? You'll also need the latest versions of Xtracks, and Newroads, which I think are at Train-Sim. I'm going to go look for the two MSTS updates. Was the RGS route folder named OR ? If so where did you put it? Did you unzip it first, and read the readme?
Sorry but you got a couple steps ahead of me, and I want to make sure you got it right. OK, talk to you later.

I already had MSTS. No I didn't get the updates installed. Yes I got the folder name or unziped, stuck it in the MSTS file, and ran the install file.

Okay I got the update that was on the Microsoft site, and I'll find the latest versions of the other two.

I like Trainz better and use that every now and then when im bored. I also have 8' x 12' oval of G scale track in my living loom with a small yard I use to run LGB & Bachmann large scale D&RGW & RGS stuff. Spent many quite a few years when I was younger modeling the Burlington Northern and later the Chicago & North Western in HO scale and I have a Lionel set gathering dust somewhere at home hiding in a closet... I have allways liked the Large Scale stuff the best though just got into it a few years ago after taking a 10 or so year break from forgetting about railroads

Howdy! New guy here... Anyway, my layout is a 1/24th scale outdoor model railroad, called the In-ko-pah Railroad. I started work on it at the beginning of 2006, finished the mainline last summer. The theme is a narrow gauge line serving several mines and old mining communities, in a rocky, southwestern desert environment.

The layout is built into a steep slope behind our house, and I've used that to create a lot of cool vertical scenery. I had to dig out the hillside to build the tunnels, and personally hauled in at least 20 tons of rock to create the rugged mountainous terrain. There are numerous bridges, trestles and tunnels. Everything is scratch-built except the trains, which have at least been modified and repainted. In the long term, I would like to eventually do some scratch-built rolling stock.

I've recently begun construction on my first town, with two structures finished so far. All have interior details and lighting. I also have a couple mines, an old stone cabin, a water tower and a few other minor structures in place. And I've experimented with sculpting figures based on real people.

Here are a couple recent pics:

You can see more pics on my website at www.raydunakin.com

I also have videos of the layout on YouTube, including this onboard video of the entire route:

Enjoy!

I'm in the very beginning stages of building Tennessee Pass (circa 1985) in my home office. It'll be a shelf layout on 3 levels around the room representing the line from Malta, CO over Tenn Pass to Mintrun, CO.

I'll post pictures when I get something done that's worth looking at.
